Canadian Medicare
The media has extensively reported that our Canadian health system is under attack by those who want to totally privatize it. Polls show that about 86% Canadians support our universal health care system.
Perhaps, the following the information will provide a more balanced look at our system and avoid the pitfalls of other countries.
Adminstration and billing costs in the US are at least 30% while Canada's are 16%. Forty six million people in the US do not have any health care coverage. What is a concern in Canada is the doctor- patient ratio which is lower than Europe and the US, but that is not the fault of Medicare. The BC Health Coalition points out that BC "government health care spending has hardly increased at all compared to the size of B.C.’s economy in the last 15 years. It’s about 7 cents on the dollar, about the same as in 1991."
